Text Message Fraud in the NY Metro Area

It has been brought to our attention that fraudulent text messages are being delivered to random NY area consumers with the warning that their debit cards have been closed or somehow compromised. When consumers call the telephone number provided in the text message they hear a recording that requests a 16-digit card number and PIN. 20th Century Fox FCU will never contact members by phone or text message asking you to verify account details. Please do not give out your account information. Call the credit union to verify the authenticity of a text message or e-mail you may receive.

Here are some safety tips that reduce your exposure to fraud:

General information regarding registered warrants (IOU's)

Twentieth Century Fox Federal Credit Union is accepting Registered Warrants (state-issued IOUs) The state of California has announced that they will be issuing Registered Warrants (IOUs) for payment to private businesses, local governments, taxpayers receiving income tax refunds and owners of unclaimed property. A registered warrant is a “promise to pay” that is issued by the State when there are not enough funds to pay all of its General Fund obligations. 20th Century Fox Federal Credit Union recognizes the State of California budget crisis and its effect on our members. In an effort to support our members, while giving the government additional time to pass a budget, we will accept California State registered warrants-or IOUs. What you need to know: • We’ll accept warrants for existing members in good standing only • Because we have to verify the authenticity of each registered warrant, there may be a hold period of at least 3 days before funds are available for withdrawal • Members presenting a registered warrant for deposit surrender their right to any interest from the State. For additional information about registered warrants please visit the State Treasurers website at http://sco.ca.gov or call the Treasurer’s registered warrants hotline at (888) 864 2762.
